Are you aspiring to a healthier, greener life? Are you transitioning yourself and your family to a whole foods diet or gradually eliminating the chemicals in your cleaning and beauty products? You have probably heard by now that fluoride in tap water is bad for you. Most people don’t know that the type of fluoride added to water supplies, most toothpaste, and many beverages and foods is typically a waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, and phosphate (fertilizer) industries. Fluoride is not your friend.
Fluoride is a poison, and years ago it was used as an insecticide and rat poison. So why would this be good for us? It can damage health and fertility, destroy bones and teeth, and cause early puberty in children. This dangerous chemical is everywhere in our food supply. It is in our water, juice, soda, wine and coffee, soups, and processed food and in baby formula. The majority of American cities have fluoridated water. Fluoride is also an active ingredient in anesthetic, hypnotic and psychiatric drugs as well as nerve gas used by the military.
A recent study in the Lancet, the world’s oldest and most prestigious medical journal has recently identified fluoride (alongside arsenic, lead, and mercury) as one of eleven major neurotoxicant chemicals implicated in the pandemic of neurodevelopmental disabilities in children. These disabilities include autism, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other cognitive impairments.
Hidden Dangers of Fluoride
Most of this neurotoxin entering your body is not easily eliminated it tends to accumulate in the bones and teeth. Recently, it has been discovered to accumulate in the thyroid gland as well as the pineal and pituitary glands.
Many people think they can avoid it by just using fluoride-free toothpaste. However, it isn’t just in toothpaste. Almost all of the beverages sold in stores and restaurants are made with tap water. People who drink those beverages ingest a fair amount of added fluoride.
We are exposed daily to its dangers from the following sources:
- Toothpaste with fluoride
- Baby formula
- Foods cooked in fluoridated water
- Canned soup, or soup in restaurants
- Mechanically deboned chicken
- Food cooked in Teflon cookware
- Soft drinks
- Tap water
- Fruit juice (unless fresh-squeezed at home)
- Beer and wine (unless imported from Europe or other areas that don’t fluoridate)
- Coffee (if made with fluoridated water)
- Tea (all tea is naturally high in fluoride, even organic tea)
- Packaged and processed foods
- Anesthetics
- Fluoridated salt
- Vegetable gardening
From 1990 to 1992, the Journal of the American Medical Association published three separate articles linking increased hip fracture rates to fluoride in the water. In the March 22, 1990 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, Mayo Clinic researchers reported that fluoride treatment of osteoporosis increased hip fracture rate and bone fragility.
A study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association confirmed fluoride as a toxic substance that actually destroys teeth, particularly those of developing young children and babies. This study published in the National Library of Medicine states fluoride is a human developmental neurotoxicant that reduces measures of intelligence in children, placing it into the same category as toxic metals (lead, methylmercury, arsenic).
Now that you are armed with information on this neurotoxin, you have the ability to make smarter, wiser choices on products you use for yourself and your family.
