Lavender Lemonade A Refreshing Summer Drink

This is a delightful refreshing lemonade drink on those hot muggy days. After working in my gardens for several hours, I truly look forward to relaxing with this lavender lemonade. Planting lavender in your garden will give you more than enough lavender to make this delicious lemonade.

Lavender Health Benefits

Lavender is a perennial plant and grows in a sunny spot multiplying nicely in the herb garden. Run your hand over this plant and you’ll release the wonderful aroma that is so calming and soothing. This is a very popular herb for soothing stress and anxiety, just inhaling the sweet scent can be enough to give you relief. Lavender lemonade is another way to soothe your body and mind as the antioxidant properties impact the endocrine system lowering your levels of stress hormones.

Lavender lemonade has gained much recognition for helping people deal with chronic, painful headaches, migraines and anxiety. Lavender has been found to treat insomnia, anxiety, fungal infections, hair loss, and wounds because of it’s effective anti-inflammatory properties.

Lavender Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raw honey (preferably local)
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 2 Tbsp. dried organic culinary lavender
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed organic lemon juice, strained
  • Ice cubes
  • Lavender sprigs for garnish
  • 1 quart Mason jar or pitcher
  • Fine mesh sieve

Directions

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium pan
  • Put the flowers in a mason jar and pour the boiling water over them
  • Cover the jar and let steep for 8-10 minutes
  • Juice the lemons while the tea is steeping
  • Strain the tea with a mesh strainer into a pitcher or jar
  • Discard the lavender (compost the lavender)
  • Let the tea cool down to lukewarm
  • Add the honey and stir until it dissolves
  • Add the lemon juice to the mixture
  • Taste and add more honey or lemon if you prefer
  • Add more water if the taste is too strong
  • Refrigerate until ready to use or pour into tall glasses half-filled with ice, then garnish with lavender sprigs.

This makes 32 oz of lemonade.
